United Wagon Company expands its service network around 1520-mm gauge area

22.12.2021

As part of the development of warrant and post-warrant maintenance of new generation railcars, the Research and Production Corporation "United Wagon Company" ("RPC UWC," the " Group" or the "Company") (MOEX: UWGN), Russia’s largest manufacturer of freight cars , continues to expand its service network in the 1520-mm gauge area. The total number of the Company's service centres in the CIS and Baltic states reached 109* (increased by 14 centres compared to the end of 2020).

The scheduled (depot and overhaul) maintenance of freight cars on 25-t axle-load bogies, produced at the enterprises of the Tikhvin Industrial Site (based in Leningrad region Company’s works), can be carried out at 49* service centres now (increased by 17 centres compared to the end of 2020). The rest of the centres have spare part storage facilities for new generation cars to reduce their downtime due to uncoupling repair.

This year, UWC opened service centres in Kazakhstan and Belarus. The centres, the Akmola Car Repair Plant JSC (Nur-Sultan), a private company, Kamkor Wagon (Karaganda and Pavlodar), a subdivision of “National Company” “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy”, and the Vitebsk Branch of the Belarusian Railway Unitary Enterprise (Vitebsk), are authorized to carry out depot and complete overhauls. Notably, UWC service centres in Kazakhstan opened in 2013, and the Company has been developing partnership with the Belarusian Railway since 2015.

Igor Tkachev, Managing Director at Tikhvin Assembly Plant “Titran-Express”: "Speaking of the 1520-mm gauge space as a whole, we have a clear forecast for the development of scheduled maintenance activities for our freight cars. Our company is systematically increasing the number of service centres at routes with intense traffic, including those authorized to carry out all types of maintenance and repair operations. The number of Tikhvin freight cars operated in Belarus, Kazakhstan, and neighboring countries is growing, therefore we are expanding our service network internationally."
