Russia’s Tikhvin Freight Car-Building Plant (TVSZ) has announced that its new generation gondolas equipped with Barber S-2-R bogies have been commissioned on the railway network.
These universal gondolas, equipped with an increased-load Barber bogie, are the first to come in to service.
The multipurpose drop-bottom model 12-9853 gondolas have a capacity of 75t, which allows the car owner to carry +5.5t of freight.
The gondola is characterised by an increased life-to-overhaul of 500,000 km instead of 210,000 km of standard freight cars.
Potential customers who have expressed their interest in using Barber bodie cars include Freight One, Second Freight Company, Transgarant, Siberian Coal Energy Company and Tatravagonka.
"We are introducing the Barber technology as a standard open to all freight car manufacturers and, with the support of the Russian Railways and car owners, are getting ready for mass operation of the new-generation cars", said Maxim Kuzemchenko, TVSZ trading house director.
