Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant has put in service the first cars of the new generation

Under the current partnership agreement on the adaptation of the innovative railway techniques the Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant has supplied the first batch of the railway cars to OJSC “Freight One”.
The batch of the 6 mineral fertilizer hoppers with the axle load of 23,5 tf has been presented to the operator to run the experimental under-control service. In the nearest time the drop bottom gondolas based on the Barber S-2-R bogie will also be delivered to OJSC “Freight one”.
The carrying load of a hopper equipped with a Barber bogie with the increased axle load of 25 tf equals to 76,5 t, which with the body space of 101 cubic meters will allow to the proprietor to transport 5-6 tons of freight more and save more than 7% on tariff-rate. Extended containment of hopper boxes allowed to reduce center of gravity, and made possible to improve stability of cars from tripping, and extended dimensions of loading doors make car loading process better. Hopper car was tested for repairability and can be repaired at any engine house.
As deputy director general of OJSC “Freight One” in technical development – senior principal engineer Sergey Kaletin informed his company is interested in purchasing Tikhvin’s rolling stock of new generation. Characteristics of the railway cars make them significantly better than the cars that were designed back in Soviet times, and these new cars will eventually replace the old ones. Being the first ones to exploit the railway cars of the new generation, we hope to form certain tendency for all the proprietors of rolling stock’.
