The largest European car manufacturer Tatravagonka has chosen Barber S-2-R standard
The Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant and Tatravagonka a.s. have entered into strategic partnership agreement in development, production and launch of the innovative products of the railroad machine building. The agreement has been signed during the visit of Russian Railways delegation with V. Yakunin at the head to Slovakia.
The application of Barber S-2-R design for the production of the new types of freight rolling stock by Tatravagonka for the Russian Federation represents a focal point in collaboration between the companies.
It’s worth recalling that Tatravagonka is one of the largest European manufacturers of freight cars and car bogies. Currently the Slovakian company within the frameworks of the co-projects with Russian Railways, First Freight and Transcontainer companies is designing the new freight cars – joint type flat car, universal covered car and contemporary types of fitting flat cars. In prospect the serial production in the Russian Federation is planned.
Tatravagonka followed up with the selection of Barber S-2-R bogie designed for 1520 gauge by American producer Standard Car Truck (Wabtec Corporation) for their cars. The intellectual rights to Barber S-2-R design are owned by the Russian part.
In accordance with the signed document Tatravagonka will obtain the license for production and export to the territory of the Russian Federation of Barber S-2-R bogie and its elements. Within 2011 the Slovakian company will undertake the design of the cars on the basis of Barber type 18-9810 (axial load 23,5 tf) and 18-9855 (axial load 25 tf) and their production assimilation.
As the Chairman of the management board of the Tatravagonka a.s., Alexey Belyaev notes, “Barber bogie was selected owning to its performance characteristics compliant with the state-of-the-art cars being offered in the market”.
According to Igor Tsyplakov, Chairman of the board of directors of the Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant, “this agreement will deepen the attraction of the new standard of the car undercarriage and gain the support of the operators, car manufacturers and the Russian Rail Roads. We strongly believe that Barber has all chances to succeed”.
