Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant has been awarded Ekaterina Dashkova's Award

06.06.2016

JSC “Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant” (TVSZ, part of the railway holding RPC UWC) has been proclaimed the winner of Ekaterina Dashkova’s Award – the most prestigious award in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region library environment. The enterprise has become the winner in the nomination “Patron” for the implementation of the sociocultural center “Teffy” project.

The award ceremony was held in the Grand Hall of The D.D. Shostakovich St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonia during the evening dedicated to the All-Russian Library Day.

Nadezhda Belova, the Chair of the Board of directors of TVSZ, accepted the Award on behalf of the “Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant” – the diploma of the winner and the bronze high relief depicting Ekaterina Dashkova. “It’s a great pleasure for us that our project “Teffiy” was not only awarded, but was honored as the first winner in the category “Patron, — Nadezhda Belova pointed out. — It is not only our efforts that helped us win. We could not manage without the assistance of the team of the Russian State Library for Young Adults, St. Petersburg and regional community of librarians and the Tikhvin District Culture Committee.”

The idea to create a center dedicated to the cultural and literary life of the town and public space based on a town sitting-room approach was that starting point that initiated “Teffiy” library project in the town of Tikhvin. The successful experience of the Russian State Library for Young Adults was used during the project implementation. Today the Tikhvin sociocultural center is the place where the whole family can spend their leisure time, where everyone can engage in their favorite activity. The center embodies a multifunctional space where cultural events and meetings can be held and interest club participants can gather; a book fund of high quality, providing access to electronic databases and libraries, an art-café, a creative workshop, halls for exhibitions and masterclasses.

St. Petersburg Library Association established the Award and it was named after Ekaterina Dashkova – an outstanding figure of the Russian Enlightenment and book culture, President of the Russian Academy. The honorary Aaward is granted under the initiative of the Government of St. Petersburg and the Central City Public Library named after V. V. Mayakovsky for the contribution to the libraries’ work carried out for the good of society.
